Almost 50 voices, members of “Bude Circuit Singers”, conducted by Andrew Pitt, presented “Rumours of Angels” written by popular Christian Composer, Graham Kendrick at three venues over the weekend 4th – 6th December.  The first venue was St. Winwaloe’s Parish Church, Poundstock, the second Bude Methodist Church, and finally, Bradworthy Memorial Hall.  All venues were very well attended by appreciative audiences who between them raised almost £900 for local Charities, namely Shetlerbox, Bude After School Club, The Little Rays of Sunshine Club and North Devon Hospice who will all have a share of the funds.

“Rumours of Angels” is a collection of songs describing the Christmas Story set in a ‘contemporary’ style.  To set the scene the singers began by singing the popular calypso carol, ‘See Him lying on a bed of straw’. After a brief introduction followed by a reading of the Christmas Story, the Singers began with ‘Can you believe it’.  The title song, ‘Rumours of Angels’ described a new star appearing to a darkened world where empires had fallen as the people who had ravaged the earth with envy and greed were left asking when they would welcome the Prince of Peace.  ‘Earth lies spellbound’ tells of wonder and amazement as Christmas Day dawns and the New King is born.  ‘Nothing will ever be the same again’ speaks of people who carry on the same without noticing the birth in their hurried lives but in the final verse we are asked to “Stop for a moment, step inside, tonight could be your Bethlehem” – a message for our world today.  ‘Thorns in the straw’ describes the life and death of Jesus in five ‘moving’ verses which brought tears to the eyes of some in the audiences. ‘Ain’t nothing like it’ brought a party atmosphere as the people celebrate the birth and ‘Seekers and Dreamers’ told of the Wise Men travelling to visit the new-born King bearing their gifts.  Other songs included, ‘He is Here’, What kind of Greatness’, ‘You came from the Highest’ and finally, ‘White Horse’ which tells God’s people to be patient, be ready and look up as the Lord is here.  The song is completed with the people pleading, “Come Jesus come”.

Soloists were John Greening, Kath Morrison, John Cleave, Dr. David Wood, Lorna Cox, Kay Page, Coral Locke, Sue Howard and Sue Pitt.  Musicians were Sarah Riviere (keyboards), John Greening (guitar), Matt Bosustow (bass), Fiona Greening (flute) and Josh Greening (drums).  The singers represent churches and neighbourhoods from Bude and the surrounding districts.  If you would like more information about Bude Circuit Singers who practise on Tuesday evenings please contact Andrew Pitt
